Communication via email has been the norm for many years. However, there is still a need for the fax machine these days, just not as much.
The original ‘telefax’, colloquially referred to as a fax, works as follows: you scan a message or a picture, after which the data is transferred by the telephone network to the receiver’s fax, where the message is printed out. In its time, this form of communication was revolutionary, as its alternative was the post office, which is why the fax was significantly time-saving and cheaper.
Today, the fax isn’t really used by private individuals, however, some businesses still use the fax system to receive incoming messages.
